The lawmaker representing Borno South senatorial district, Ali Ndume, has applauded President Tinubu’s recent cabinet restructuring, especially the scrapping of the Ministry of Niger Delta and creation of Ministry of Regional Development to oversee all regional commissions.

Describing President Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle last week, as a masterstroke Ndume, called for the sacking of more non performing ministers from cabinet.

Ndume, in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, said some other ministers who were mere figure heads should be also shown the way out

“More needs to be done as some ministers are still ‘missing in action.

“I’m particularly pleased about establishing the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee regional commissions. The President’s decision to streamline ministries also exemplifies his commitment to reducing the cost of governance.”

The former senate whip, wants Tinubu to pursue the de-dollarisation policy further by positioning Nigeria to join BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

Ndume noted that the move would benefit Nigerian businesses, especially those importing from China, by reducing reliance on the dollar and easing pressure on the naira.

De-dollarisation is the process by which countries explore alternative methods for international trade and financial transactions to reduce dependence on the U.S. dollar as the primary global reserve currency.

On the performance of the nation’s economy, senator Ndume, urged Tinubu to convene a national economic conference led by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the National Economic Adviser, and notable Nigerian economists to proffer realistic local solutions that can help the Federal Government grow the economy.

Similarly, some concerned Niger Delta leaders, have condemned the scrapping of the ministry of Niger Delta, which they said was created by late President Umaru Yar’adua, specifically to curtail the restiveness that was in the Niger Delta region.

The likes of Foremost Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark, as well as Asari Dokubo and Timi Frank, have called on President Tinubu to reverse the decision considering the role the region plays in Nigeria’s economy.
