New Minimum Wage: Sokoto NLC suspends planned strike

The state chairman, Sokoto State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungle has announced the suspension of its planned strike over the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage.

Jungle, disclosed this at a press briefing over the weekend.

“The state branch of the NLC support the implementation of N70,000 announced by the state government effective January 2025.

He revealed that the new wage, would take effect in January 2025, for the benefit of genuine council workers and teachers across the state.

Briefing journalists after a meeting with the union’s executives at the NLC Secretariat in Sokoto, Jungle expressed the branch’s support for the agreement reached with the state government.

He emphasized that the implementation of the minimum wage aligns with the broader goal of fostering development in the state.

“We will also assist the state government in the process of implementing the minimum wage even it means conducting screening and verification to ensure only genuinely employed workers benefit from the new minimum  wage of N70, 000 “, Aliyu Jungle stressed.

The Chairman, urged workers in the state to exercise patience and expressed confidence that the state government is committed to unveiling more welfare packages for workers .

Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto had at the presentation of the state proposed budget for the 2025 fiscal year to the state Assembly, announced that the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for workers in the state would take effect from January 2025.
