December 5, 2025

With a view to ameliorating the effects of attacks by boko haram and bandits on farmers in the state, the  Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, has announced that the state government will subsidize the cost of petrol to farmers in communities.

The proposed relief was disclosed by Zulum in Bama town on Friday during the flagging off of distribution of farm inputs to over 5,000 farmers have been displaced by Boko Haram attacks.

According to the governor, a litre of petrol would be sold at a subsidised price of N600 to the farmers as against official prices of between N1,000 and N1,200 in Maiduguri.

He said the initiative was geared towards alleviating the financial burdens of the farmers in communities whose communities have suffered devastation due to insurgents attack.

According to Zulum, a similar initiative implemented in Damasak, Mobar local government area last year has significantly improved livelihoods and increased food production.

“One of the major challenges that are facing the farming communities here as regards irrigation farming is the increasing cost of fuel. As a result, I want to announce to the general public that government will procure petroleum products and sell to the farmers at a subsided rate, a litre of petrol is being sold in Maiduguri at the cost of about N1,200 but in’shAllah, henceforth for irrigation farmers this season a litre of petrol will be sold at the rate of N600.”
