Salah signs new Liverpool deal, extends stay

By Makua Ubanagu

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay at Anfield beyond the 2024-25 season.

The Egyptian, who joined the Reds from AS Roma in 2017, is currently enjoying another remarkable campaign, having netted 32 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions. Of those, 27 have come in the Premier League, making him the division’s top scorer. He has also registered 22 assists for his teammates so far this term.

Salah, 32, expressed his delight at continuing his journey with the Merseyside club.

“Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

The news marks a significant boost for manager Arne Slot, who will be hoping to build on Salah’s contributions as Liverpool look to compete for major honours once again.

Salah, already regarded as one of the club’s greatest players, is third on Liverpool’s all-time top scorer list with 243 goals in 394 appearances. He has helped the Reds to seven major trophies during his time at Anfield, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups.

His individual accolades include three Premier League Golden Boot awards, two PFA Players’ Player of the Year honours, and two FWA Footballer of the Year awards.

Thanking fans for their continued support, Salah added, “I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
