Cole Palmer: Goal Drought Only Strengthened My Resolve

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has revealed that his recent goal drought served as motivation rather than a setback, helping to fuel his determination to bounce back stronger.

After enduring an 18-match run without finding the back of the net, Palmer finally broke the spell with a crucial stoppage-time penalty in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Liverpool. The goal not only ended his personal scoring slump but also proved vital in Chelsea’s continued push for a top-four finish, drawing them level on points with Newcastle United in the race for Champions League qualification.

Speaking after the match, Palmer admitted that the drought had been mentally challenging but refused to let it define his form or confidence. “You go through tough spells, but that only pushes me harder,” he said. “People will always talk online, but I know what I’m capable of.”

The 22-year-old also addressed the criticism he faced during the dry spell, making it clear that he wouldn’t be rattled by public scrutiny. “S*** happens,” Palmer told reporters bluntly. “I just stayed focused and waited for my moment.”

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca praised Palmer’s resilience and professionalism, noting that despite his struggles in front of goal, the midfielder remained fully committed in training and maintained a positive presence within the squad. “These phases happen in football,” Maresca said. “But Cole never let it affect his mindset.”
