ACQUITTED SUSPECTS IN RIVERS STATE ASSEMBLY FIRE INCIDENT REVEAL PRESSURE TO FRAME FUBARA’S CHIEF OF STAFF WITH N200M BRIBE AND OVERSEAS DEAL

April 07, 2025

It is barely two weeks since the former Rivers state head of civil service, George Nweake, indicted the chief of staff to the suspended governor, Edison Ehie, and the former chairman of Obio/Akpor local government area, Chidioke Ihuwon, in the bombing of the Rivers state house of assembly, in a press briefing at Abuja.

In another twist of events, Individuals recently acquitted in connection with the Rivers State House of Assembly fire incident have alleged that they were pressured to falsely implicate the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Ehie Edison DSSRS, in the fire incident.

In a shocking revelation that raises questions about the depth of political manipulation in Rivers, they claimed that they were offered a staggering N200 million bribe and promises of relocation abroad all in exchange for signing a scripted confession implicating Ehie in the arson.

The acquitted persons, who spoke for the records and for fear of reprisal, described a calculated attempt to weaponize the case for political vendetta.

According to them, some powerful forces desperate to frame up the Chief of Staff and destabilize the administration of Governor Siminialayi Fubara offered not just money, but a complete life reset outside the country.

“We were told to mention Edison Ehie’s name as the mastermind. They said we’d be given 200 million naira and taken abroad,” one of them revealed. “But we chose to stand by the truth. Ehie had no hand in the fire.”

Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, a former Speaker and former Leader of the Assembly, has long been a loyal ally of Governor Fubara and a central figure in the ongoing political struggle in the state. His growing influence has apparently made him a prime target in the escalating feud between loyalists of the present administration and detractors seeking to regain control.
