Anambra Governorship Campaign Set to Begin June 11 as INEC Releases Timetable

Anambra Governorship Campaign Set to Begin June 11 as INEC Releases Timetable…Political activities are set to intensify in Anambra State as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared June 11, 2025, as the starting date for campaigns ahead of the upcoming governorship election.

The election itself is scheduled to take place on November 8, 2025, and the announcement signals the official green light for political parties to begin their campaigns across the state.

INEC made this known following the release of the final list of candidates vying for the governorship seat in Anambra.

With this confirmation, all registered political parties in the race are now allowed to commence public engagement, town hall meetings, rallies, and other campaign-related activities aimed at persuading the electorate.

The campaigns are expected to run from June 11 until November 6, 2025, two days before voters head to the polls.

The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, reiterated the importance of adhering strictly to the election timetable and schedule of activities as outlined by the Commission.

According to him, the formal notice for the Anambra gubernatorial poll was issued on November 13, 2024, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, which requires that such notices be published at least 360 days before the date of the election.

A number of key dates leading up to the election have also been released by the Commission.

Party primaries were scheduled to take place between March 20 and April 10, 2025, after which the candidate nomination portal opened on April 18 and closed on May 12, 2025.

The final list of candidates was published on June 9, just two days before the commencement of campaign activities.

The election will take place across all 5,720 polling units in Anambra State.

INEC has stressed its commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process and has urged political parties, candidates, and voters to conduct themselves responsibly as preparations intensify.

The Commission has also promised to release more details in due course concerning other critical aspects of the electoral process.

These include voter registration, transfer of voter records, and the reissuance of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

To further aid in public awareness and compliance, INEC will upload the complete timetable and schedule of activities to its official website and social media platforms.

Printed copies will also be distributed to all recognized political parties to guide their campaign planning and electoral strategies.

Political observers expect a heated race as several parties prepare to battle for dominance in the southeastern state.

Anambra, known for its vibrant political scene and high voter engagement, is anticipated to witness a dynamic campaign season.

Already, party loyalists and supporters are gearing up for intense mobilization efforts, and campaign posters, jingles, and media outreach are expected to flood the state in the coming weeks.

The electoral process in Anambra is seen as a critical test for the Independent National Electoral Commission, particularly in ensuring fairness, neutrality, and the security of voters and electoral personnel.

Professor Yakubu has consistently maintained that INEC is ready to deliver a free, fair, and credible poll, promising collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, civil society organizations, and the media.

As the countdown to June 11 begins, the political atmosphere in Anambra is already beginning to heat up.

With parties given the go-ahead to canvass for votes, the next five months promise a flurry of political activity, policy promises, and grassroots engagement as candidates compete for the people’s mandate.

All eyes will be on INEC to maintain transparency and on the political parties to conduct their campaigns in line with electoral guidelines.
