Anambra State Govt. Drags Native Doctor To Court On Charges Of Rituals, Fraud, Others

For quite some time now, Anambra state has become a frequent mention in the news for the wrong reasons with crime and criminality being the order of the day in the state.

Recently, the state government decided to take fight against criminals and those aiding and abetting the acts including native doctor, to their doorsteps.

One of such was a popular native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okoku, who was fingered for allegedly preparing charms and fortifications for criminals, has been arraigned on five count charges bordering on ritual practices, robbery conspiracy, and aiding internet fraudsters, commonly known as Yahoo boys.

The case was brought against him by the Anambra State government, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Nwangwu, who was arrested on Sunday, February 16, had his charges officially presented on Tuesday, February 25, at the Anambra State High Court in a ruling delivered by Justice Onochie M. Anyachebelu.

The five charges against him include:
Engaging in money ritual practices.
Maintaining business ties with drug dealers.
Preparing charms for kidnappers and armed robbers within and outside the state.
Assisting internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) in their criminal activities and
Performing ritualistic charms for clients.

The Anambra State government has vowed to confiscate Nwangwu’s properties, including his hotel and cars if the court found him culpable.

The case has been adjourned to a later date for further hearing.
