Army Chief Oluyede Moves to Benue as Herdsmen Attacks Escalate…In a bold move aimed at addressing the worsening security crisis in Benue State, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has relocated to the state alongside his Principal Staff Officers (PSOs).
This strategic decision comes in the wake of renewed attacks by suspected herdsmen on communities in Gwer West and Apa local government areas, where scores of residents have been killed and many others displaced.
Oluyede’s relocation underscores the seriousness of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to quelling the violence and restoring order in one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions.
The attacks, which occurred late on a Sunday, left at least 20 people dead, according to official police accounts—12 in Apa and 10 in Gwer West.
