Bandits Kill Police Escort, Abduct Former Rep Member In Nasarawa

By Idris BubaSuspected bandits have kidnapped a Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu.

He was abducted at about 6:00 p.m on Monday on his way to Jos, between Nunku in Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, and Gwantu in Sanga Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The assailants, in a gun battle, fatally shot and killed the police escort assigned to Dr. Kigbu, who attempted to resist the abduction. Eyewitnesses said the bandits fired sporadically, causing panic among motorists.

Local villagers who also confirmed the incident, said the location has been a hotspot for bandits and other criminals over the years.

The latest incident concerning Dr. Kigbu and the death of the police escort underscore the persistent security challenges in the region, with many residents calling for increased security presence.

The Nasarawa State Police Command could not be reached for confirmation as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer were unanswered.
