Explosion rocks Port Harcourt, injured suspected pro-Wike protester carrying dynamite:

The suspect who accidentally detonated a dynamite near the Presidential Hotel on the Ph-Aba Expressway during a protest on Tuesday morning has been apprehended.

The suspect who sustained injuries in the process, was part of a group of protesters allegedly hired by former local government chairmen and cronies of the FCT Minister, was found and arrested at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital in Port Harcourt.

Rivers state Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze while fielding questions at the Braithwaite memorial Hospital in port Harcourt said the suspect was brought in by a few individual who presented him as accident victims at the Accident and emergency ward but upon examination the Doctors discover that the injuries resembled that of a blast and alerted the authorities.

The incident caused pandemonium in Port Harcourt this Tuesday morning, June 25, 2024, when a middle-aged protester carrying dynamite got injured while trying to discharge the explosive.

The explosion happened in front of Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt.

According to an eyewitness account, the injured victim was taken away hurriedly as security agents trooped to the location where the incident occurred.

The tragedy happened as top political leaders from the different wards of Obio/Akpor marched in solidarity for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike in a protest march.

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Okey Chinda, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and former Council Chairman, George Ariolu, led the march.

They were demanding that the Inspector General of Police, continue to occupy the councils thereby denying the newly inaugurated caretaker committee chairmen entrance and not succumb to any form of intimidation.

The solidarity march took place along Ikwerre road, as the crowd caused a gridlock on the road.

While addressing the crowd, former chairman of Obia/Akpor, George Ariolu said they were in support of peace and order in the state.

He said, “Rivers is a state that complies with law and order. We are in support of the position of the Nigerian police. The inspector general under President Tinubu, has the right to bring peace to Rivers State, even when there are provocative actions that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.

Their open support for Wike comes as the Ipo community women, on the same day,, barricaded the Port Harcourt airport in protest, leaving passengers stranded
