Lagos Police Assure Residents of Tight Security Measures for Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations

Lagos Police Assure Residents of Tight Security Measures for Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations…As preparations intensify for this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festivities, the Lagos State Police Command has moved to reassure residents of their safety, unveiling a detailed plan for heightened security across the state.

The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Owohunwa Adegoke, says robust security measures are being put in place to ensure peaceful and hitch-free celebrations.

In a statement released by the spokesperson of the Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said extensive deployment of personnel and special units is underway to secure prayer grounds, recreational centers, highways, and other public places expected to witness increased human activity during the Sallah holiday.

The plan includes officers from multiple tactical and specialized units such as the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Police Mobile Force, EKO Strike Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad, Tactical Units, the K9 section, and Mounted Troops.

The police say these teams are being strategically stationed across Lagos to provide round-the-clock coverage throughout the period of celebration.

The Commissioner of Police has reportedly directed that particular attention be paid to locations with high human traffic, such as Eid prayer grounds, large mosques, markets, motor parks, and event centers.

The aim is to forestall any attempts to disrupt the peace or endanger public safety.

In addition to physical deployments, the Command says intelligence operations have been intensified.

Surveillance activities around known trouble spots, criminal hideouts, and flashpoints have been scaled up to preempt any criminal activity.

Anti-crime patrols will be active both day and night, with special focus on areas with histories of robbery, cult clashes, or other forms of public disorder.

The Command is also placing significant emphasis on public cooperation, urging Lagosians to remain alert and to report any suspicious movements or individuals.

CSP Hundeyin reiterated that the police cannot work in isolation and need the active support of residents to ensure the success of the security plan.

He encouraged members of the public to use emergency lines and contact their local police divisions promptly if they notice anything unusual in their communities.

Furthermore, residents have been advised to obey all lawful instructions issued by security personnel, particularly around traffic control and crowd management during the holiday.

The police say compliance with these guidelines will help reduce the risk of accidents, confusion, or other preventable incidents during large gatherings.

While acknowledging the significance of Eid-el-Kabir in the Muslim calendar, the police appealed to all celebrants to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid any behavior that could provoke unrest.

The Command warned that it would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone caught disturbing the peace or violating public order during the celebrations.

CP Owohunwa has also extended warm Sallah greetings to all Muslim faithful in the state, expressing optimism that the season would be marked in an atmosphere of unity, peace, and security.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the police to the safety of every resident and visitor in Lagos, noting that the security architecture of the state has been reinforced to handle any challenges that may arise.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured that it remains fully committed to ensuring a secure environment, not just during the festive period, but at all times.

It called on the public to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and accurate information, while also remaining law-abiding in their conduct.

With these proactive steps, authorities say they are confident that residents of Lagos will enjoy a peaceful and safe Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
