Lagos terminates the state-owned transportation services’ 25% fare refund.

The Lagos State Government no longer offers a 25% fare refund on any state-owned transportation services.

The information was revealed in a message on the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s (LAMATA) official X handle.

“On Sunday, June 2, 2024, the 25% fare rebate on regulated public transportation buses, ferries, and rail services will expire.

“The original fare of 100% will be applied to all regulated transport services in the state starting on Monday, June 3rd,” the announcement stated.

On February 23, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state governor, announced a 25% fare refund. With the statement, he lessened the impact of the termination of fuel subsidies by offering a six-month, 50% rebate, which started on July 31, 2023.

The statement said, “The state government has expended effort and resources in transport subsidies to ease the pains associated with the removal of fuel subsidy effected last year May. This is due to the rebate in regulated public transport system fares.”
