About 26 keeklamps shops at the Bariga Market, in Lagos state, were destroyed by fire on Wednesday, October 1, but no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained as reported by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA.
LASEMA, said emergency responders acted swiftly to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the market.
“The fire affected twenty-six (26) keeklamps shops within the market, with properties worth millions of naira lost to the fire. No loss of life. No injuries sustained,” the agency said in a statement.
Officials noted that the origin of the fire could not be immediately asertained.

LASEMA added that, “Further information received at the incident scene revealed that the fire started from one of the shops and quickly spread to other shops because the keeklamps shops were supported and partitioned by wooden frameworks,”
The agency said that collaboration among emergency responders was crucial in containing the fire quickly.
“The fire was immediately extinguished thanks to the coordinated efforts of all emergency personnel on site,” the statement said.
LASEMA confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control, with the fire fully extinguished and dampening-down operations concluded.
