PDP Sets Up Caretaker Committees for Bayelsa and Edo State

The South-South Zonal Working Committee (ZWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed caretaker committees to manage the party’s activities in Bayelsa and Edo states for a period of three months. This decision came after the ZWC, during a meeting chaired by the party’s National Vice-Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, approved the establishment of the caretaker committees for both states.

Isong explained that the committees were established following the dissolution of the State Working Committee (SWC) in Bayelsa and the caretaker committee in Edo.

He stated that the decision was based on what the Zonal Working Committee (ZWC) described as multiple instances of gross misconduct by the dissolved leadership.

He further noted that these actions clearly violated the party’s constitution and contributed to the poor management of internal conflicts within the PDP in both states.

“In Edo, we particularly considered the party’s disappointing performance in the recent governorship elections,” he said.

“These decisions are being made in the best interest of the PDP, following a thorough review of the party’s operations in both states.”

“This decision aligns with the party’s Constitution as amended in 2017, specifically Articles 10(1)(f), (g), (k), and (4), along with Articles 26(2)(a), 27(2)(a & b), 58(1)(a), (c), (i), (j), and 59(1)(f),” he stated.

He added, “The Zonal Working Committee hopes that this decisive action will reinforce the party’s foundation and promote strong, effective leadership in both states.”

According to the zonal spokesperson, the caretaker committee for Bayelsa is chaired by George Turnah, the South-South Zonal Secretary, with Tony Gabriel serving as Deputy Chairman and Ebilade Ekerefe appointed as Secretary.

Others are Didi Werilaghebofa, Vice Chairman, Central; Andy Majors, Vice Chairman, East; Evelyn Odi, Vice Chairman, West; Biobelemoye Igoniwari, Treasurer; Awudumapu Agorodi, Legal Adviser; Erepagamo Eke-Spiff, Financial Secretary; and Amain Oyeintariperedei, Auditor.

The committee also includes Derri Wright as Publicity Secretary, Christian Akuraku as Organizing Secretary, Ato Alfreda as Woman Leader, and Nicholas Eferebo as Youth Leader.

Isong further stated that the caretaker committee for Edo is led by Chairman Nosa Ogieva, with Chief Sunny Okomayin as Deputy Chairman, Hillary Otsu as Secretary, and Nosa Iseleomon as Vice Chairman for the South. Ehisota Oriakhi serves as Vice Chairman for the Central region, and Richard Ehimigbai is Vice Chairman for the North.

Additionally, Mrs. Tes Sorae is the Woman Leader, Benjamin Ehinlebodiaye is the Treasurer, Emma Akhaba is the Auditor, Daniel Okojie is the Organizing Secretary, Bob-Manuel Umoru is the Publicity Secretary, William Umoru is the Legal Adviser, Moses Izobo is the Financial Secretary, and Destiny Oreye is the Youth Leader.
