PDP suspends LG election campaigns in Akwa-ibom state over First Lady’s death

The Akwa Ibom state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, has announced the suspension of its local government election campaign following the untimely death of the first lady of the state, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno.

The party in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Edwin Ebiese, described the news of the first Lady’s passing as sad and devastating.

The statement reads, “It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the suspension of our local government campaign, following the untimely demise of Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, the First Lady of Akwa lbom State.

“This devastating news has left our party, and indeed the entire state, in a state of mourning. As we struggle to come to terms with this immense loss, we are compelled to pause our campaign activities as a mark of respect for the departed First Lady.

“We regret any inconvenience this suspension may cause and appreciate the understanding of our supporters and the general public during this difficult time.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa lbom State and his immediate family, the government, and people of Akwa lbom State. May God grant the family of the deceased and our state the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss”

Meanwhile, Secretary to the State government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah in a brief statement announced that all flags would be flown at half-mast in all government buildings and facilities across the State as a symbol of Akwa Ibom people’s collective grief and mourning.
