The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a Police Officer, Corporal Onwukwe Godswill, serving at Elimgbu Police Division and a 200 level student of Biomedical technology at the University of PortHarcourt, Ifeanyi Israel, for alleged cult related activity.
The command spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe Koko, who disclosed this in a statement said, on September 26, 2025, at about 1600hrs, during the activities marking the signing out of final-year students at the University of Port-Harcourt, the University’s Internal Security team confronted the suspected cult member , Police Corporal Onwukwe Godswill attached to the Elimgbu Division and a 200-Level Biomedical Technology undergraduate student of the University, Mr Ifeanyi Israel in anticipation of a clash with rival Cultists on campus.

SP Koko, stated that In a swift response, operatives of the Command attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit, were dispatched to the scene and the suspects were arrested.
After a thorough search of the suspects, Two (2) Locally madePistols, Four (4) rounds ofLive Cartridges, Two (2) Rounds of.9mm LiveAmmunition and One (1) Small Axe, were recovered as exhibits.
According to the Police, subsequent search of the house of Corporal Onwukwe by the operatives, resulted in the recovery of more exhibits, One (1) Locally made Pistol and Two (2) Matchetes
SP Koko, said the suspects and the exhibits are currently in Police custody as in-depth investigation has commenced to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement in cultism and other related offenses.

She stated that the Police Command is working diligently to unravel any potential networks or accomplices with a view to bringing all perpetrators to face the full weight of the law.
Meanwhile the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the State and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station or other Security agencies.
