Presidency, the ‘T-Pain’ jibe

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, yesterday defended his principal, over the “T-Pain” moniker directed at him, stating that Tinubu remained focused on addressing the challenges facing Nigerians

Onanuga emphasized that President Tinubu has put Nigeria on a steady path toward recovery and growth. .

The president spokesman, while speaking on a television programme, chronicled the government’s accomplishments and countered criticisms about the state of the economy.

He said the President is well aware of the difficulties citizens are experiencing and has consistently acknowledged their struggles, assuring that he is working tirelessly to provide relief and foster prosperity.

“Despite inflation, we are still recording economic growth,” Onanuga said.
Onanuga, highligted the first two quarters of the year, during which the country saw positive economic trends.

“In the first half of this year, we recorded about $9.1 trillion in revenue without significant revenue from oil, a sector traditionally relied upon by the Nigerian economy, but the money came from collection from industries and other sources.

The Presidential spokesman disagreed that the economy regressing, but rather he said it is improving, pointing to the export figures, which have surpassed imports.

While acknowledging some of the current challenges, Onanuga expressed confidence that upcoming harvests would help bring down prices of food.

“The CBN has been hiking interest rates because it wants to control inflation. Food inflation is the main driver,” he noted.

Beyond the economy, Onanuga also dismiss the T-Pain moniker, he said: “The President does not read what is in the social media.”

“The president has never shied away from telling Nigerians that he feels their pain,” Onanuga said.
