October 24, 2024

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga has in an interview on Thursday, October 24, during a live television programme disclosed that the sack of five Ministers was based on the public scorecard.

He emphasized that the overall revamp of the cabinet was a significant undertaking and part of the President’s plan since the Ministers were sworn in last year.

The aide mentioned that the President’s Special Adviser on Policy, Hadiza Bala Usman, had the responsibility of collating the performance appraisal of ministers which included collecting public feedback.

According to Onanuga: “The president had told them that he has the power to hire and fire, and that he would not hesitate to remove ministers who could not perform”.

“He also mentioned that there’ll be a performance appraisal which he said Hadiza Bala Usman, his Special Adviser on Policy should lead.

“Hadiza brought technology to the task, asking Nigerians to score the ministers.

“So, the removal of the ministers was based on empirical facts, the public perception of those Ministers actually constituted the scorecard. The President only acted on the result.”

President Tinubu, at Wednesday’s October 23, FEC meeting reshuffled his cabinet, sacked about five Ministers, reassigned 10 and appointed seven new Minister-designates.
