Candidates seeking internship placements at the University of Benin teaching hospital, UBTH, have been informed that the recruitment process is completely free and merit-based and should therefore desist from paying any gratification to anyone for assistance.
The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, cautioned while addressing over 1,500 candidates participating in the internship interview exercise at the University CBT centres.
Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, who assured the applicants of transparency and fairness in the selection process, urged them to rely on their performance rather than influence or connections.
“This interview is to ensure that only the best are shortlisted. Connections will not be used. Do not give anyone money to help you secure placement,” she said.
She noted that the exercise is being monitored by observers from the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Character Commission (FCC), and the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, emphasizing that the hospital does not operate any “special list” or backdoor arrangement for applicants.

She encouraged the candidates to remain focused and put in their best, “Do your best, and I wish you good luck.”
Representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Kayode Oke, commended UBTH for conducting a hitch-free and credible selection process, while the Edo State Director of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Barr. Simon Ehigie, said the exercise was in line with approved guidelines and adhered strictly to the Federal Character principle.
Ehigie noted that candidates were drawn from all 36 states of the federation in the federal capital territory, FCT, adding that while equitable representation was ensured, “the FCC will not sacrifice merit on the altar of balancing.”
