Diezani Alison-Madueke Denies Allegations Linking Her to Zamfara Governor

Former Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has denied reports circulating on social media alleging that she made statements linking her to the transfer of billions of dollars to Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal.

In a statement released on Thursday by her family, legal representatives, and the Bayelsa Youth Association, led by its Interim President, Comrade Bigbo Solomon, the former minister described the claims as “false, malicious, and a calculated attempt to smear her name in the public domain.”

According to the statement, Mrs. Alison-Madueke has never made such remarks and has no financial dealings with Governor Lawal, either past or present. The group said the reports appear deliberately timed to distract the public during a period of national difficulty and to interfere with her ongoing legal matters in the United Kingdom.

“This is not the first time that false narratives have been planted in the media to distort facts and damage her reputation,” the statement read, adding that the former minister remains committed to clearing her name through proper legal channels.

The group urged the media and the general public to exercise caution in handling unverified reports, stressing that journalism carries a responsibility to inform rather than mislead. They also called on security agencies and regulators to investigate and expose those behind what they described as a “campaign of falsehood.”

Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who has faced a series of allegations since leaving office in 2015, reiterated her willingness to defend herself within the confines of due process and the law, rather than in the “court of public opinion.”
