Public and private schools in Osun State are ordered to close in advance of a hunger protest

Due to anticipated statewide protests, the Osun State administration has issued an order for the immediate closure of all public and private schools inside the state due to security concerns.

According to the order, which was released on Monday, schools will begin their third-term break on Wednesday, July 31, 2023. It has been recommended that parents and guardians make sure their kids are safe at this time.

A public service announcement bearing the signature of State Ministry of Education permanent secretary A. Jimoh revealed the directive to the public.

This is to notify the public, in particular parents, guardians, and administrators of public and private schools in the state, that all schools are to proceed with their third term vacation starting on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, due to the scheduled nationwide protests.

Parents and guardians are urged to prioritize the safety of their children during the vacation period. Governor Ademola Adeleke engaged with student organizations and civil society groups to discuss the potential impact of upcoming protests before deciding to close schools. This decision underscores the government’s cautious approach.

Various organizations have announced plans for nationwide protests from August 1 to 10, under the banner “10 days of rage, #EndBadGovernance.” Although the details of the governor’s meeting remain undisclosed, the move to close schools highlights a commitment to precautionary measures amid the anticipated unrest.
